Safety & Contraindications 

(EBOO & Ozone Therapy)

Important: EBOO and ozone-based therapies are offered as supportive wellness services and are not a substitute for emergency care or treatment from your primary medical team.

Who should NOT do systemic ozone therapy
(commonly listed as an absolute contraindication)

  • Known significant G6PD deficiency (favism) due to risk of hemolysis with oxidative stress.¹

 

Who may need extra caution or medical clearance
(relative contraindications)

Depending on modality and clinical context, additional screening/clearance may be appropriate for individuals with:

  • Bleeding disorders / blood coagulation failure or active bleeding risk¹

  • Thrombocytopenia¹

  • Recent myocardial infarction¹

  • Hemorrhagic stroke / major recent cerebrovascular events¹

  • Uncontrolled hyperthyroidism¹

  • Pregnancy (especially first trimester) / medical-legal considerations¹

  • Alcohol intoxication¹


Route and safety notes

  • Safety depends on route, dose, and protocol. Some routes carry different risk profiles and should be selected clinically.²

  • Inhalation of ozone is not used therapeutically and can be harmful to the respiratory system.²

  • Avoid unsafe administration methods (your clinic protocols should reflect this).²

 

How we screen for safety

Before EBOO or systemic ozone therapies, we review:

  • Medical history, current medications/supplements, and prior reactions

  • Baseline risk factors and vitals

  • When appropriate, lab screening (often including G6PD status


Common short-term effects some people report

Depending on modality and individual response, some people report:

  • Temporary fatigue/malaise, headache, or lightheadedness²

  • Abdominal discomfort/nausea (more commonly reported with some insufflation routes)²

  • Local irritation at an application site (method-dependent)²


When to contact us urgently

Contact us or seek urgent care if you develop:

  • Severe shortness of breath, chest pain, fainting that doesn’t resolve

  • Severe or worsening swelling/redness at an IV site

  • Any symptom that feels severe or “not normal for you”
